Gasly’s Car Flips Over on Lap 6 in Miami

gasly’s car flipped over on lap 6 of the Miami Grand Prix after contact with Liam Lawson. Pierre Gasly walked away OK, and the crash helped turn the opening laps into a scramble that brought out the first safety car.

Gasly and Lawson at Turn 17

Gasly was on the outside of Lawson entering the Turn 17 hairpin when Lawson locked up the brakes and made contact. The Alpine driver’s car rolled over, then came to rest wedged up against a barrier.

Gasly was able to walk away from the wreck. Lawson was OK after the collision, and the race kept moving through the cleanup that followed.

Miami’s opening-lap trouble

The Gasly crash came just after Isack Hadjar hit the wall hard enough to break the steering on his car before it drove straight into the outside wall at the end of the chicane. Those two crashes, seconds apart, brought out the first safety car of the race.

That sequence followed a rough start. Max Verstappen spun by himself just after the race began after starting second, and Franco Colapinto made contact with Lewis Hamilton after sliding into the left side of Hamilton’s car.

Antonelli Seals the Race

Kimi Antonelli went on to win Sunday’s race for his third straight victory of 2026. Gasly’s overturned car was the clearest sign of how quickly the Miami Grand Prix turned chaotic, and the early incidents reshaped the opening before the field had settled into rhythm.
