Abhishek Sharma Leads Bangladesh Rankings Move After New Zealand Sweep
Abhishek Sharma headlines a Bangladesh rankings update after Nahid Rana jumped 16 places to 48th in the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings. The move followed Bangladesh’s 2-1 home series win over New Zealand and a pace attack that collected 18 wickets across the three matches.
Nahid Rana Reaches 48th
Rana was the biggest mover among Bangladesh’s quicks, rising from outside the top 60 to 48th after his wickets against New Zealand. Shoriful Islam climbed 11 places to 28th, while Mustafizur Rahman moved up 14 spots to 41st.
Together, the three fast bowlers took 18 wickets in the series. That return gave Bangladesh the kind of pace-bowling depth the rankings update was built around, with the home side taking the series 2-1.
Shoriful And Mustafizur Move Up
Bangladesh also picked up batting and all-round gains from the same ODI update. Najmul Hossain Shanto rose 11 places to 32nd in the batting rankings, Litton Das increased 15 spots to 65th, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz moved to equal third in the ODI all-rounders’ rankings.
The pace-bowling rise matters because Rana, Shoriful and Mustafizur all moved after a home series against New Zealand, not after a long run of matches against lower-ranked opposition. Rana also had the label of Player of the Series attached to his work, a sign of how central his spell was to the 2-1 result.
Towhid Hridoy's T20I Lift
The same rankings update carried Bangladesh gains in T20I cricket. Towhid Hridoy moved up nine places to 39th in the T20I batting rankings after a half-century and Player of the Match award in the first T20I against New Zealand.
Parvez Hossain Emon improved by three spots to equal 40th in the T20I batting rankings, and Mahedi Hasan advanced three positions to equal 18th in the T20I bowling rankings. Bangladesh’s fast-bowling rise in the ODI list, together with the T20I gains, adds momentum ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next year.
