Vincent Kompany weighs Josip Stanišić and two fullbacks for PSG

Vincent Kompany left Bayern Munich’s fullback pair unresolved before Wednesday’s match against Paris Saint-Germain, and josip stanišić was one of the three players under review. Kompany said only two of Alphonso Davies, Konrad Laimer and Stanišić can start in those positions.

Last week, Bayern Munich started Davies for 45 minutes in its 4-5 loss to Paris Saint-Germain, while Laimer came into the match and Stanišić struggled against Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Kompany said he would decide who starts tomorrow.

Kompany's fullback decision

Kompany was asked which Bayern Munich fullbacks would start against Paris Saint-Germain, and he refused to name the pair. Instead, he described the three contenders in detail and said all three have shown they can compete at this level and are important.

“All three have shown that they can compete at this level and are important. Of course they have different profiles. Konrad has intensity, runs, and aggressiveness. Stani is clean on the ball and is also quick, he always makes the right decisions on the ball. Phonzy [Davies] is extremely quick, has 1v1 qualities and is left footed, which is different to the other two. We’re very happy to have them. We’ll see who starts tomorrow.”

Davies, Laimer and Stanišić

Davies had been out of the picture for a long time because of an ACL injury, but he still started Bayern’s 4-5 loss to Paris Saint-Germain last week ahead of Laimer. Laimer was at fault for two goals in that match, which left Kompany with three fullback options and only two starting places.

Stanišić’s role remains part of that same choice. Kompany’s comments made clear that Bayern Munich’s fullback selection is the main open spot in his preferred XI for the Paris Saint-Germain match, with each player bringing a different profile to the same two positions.

The decision now moves to tomorrow, when Kompany said he would see who starts. For Bayern Munich, that leaves one of the few unresolved lineup calls in a match described as one of the club’s biggest games of the season.
