Vincent Kompany Joins Elite Company With Bayern’s Second Title
Vincent Kompany has become only the fourth coach to win the Bundesliga title twice in his first two league seasons with Bayern Munich. The feat puts him alongside Pep Guardiola, Hansi Flick and Ernst Happel after Bayern’s title run was broken in 2023/24, then rebuilt under the coach appointed in summer 2024.
Kompany And Bayern’s 66-Game Run
Bayern have lost just three of 66 Bundesliga matches in Kompany’s reign and have topped the table at the end of 64 of those 66 matchdays. That has left them on a 2.5-point average per game, the lowest loss ratio of any coach in Bundesliga history among those in charge for more than three games.
He took over after Bayern’s 11 successive league titles ended when Bayer Leverkusen won the league in 2023/24. Since then, Bayern have responded by reclaiming control quickly, with the title coming back while Kompany’s side kept the standings pressure steady almost every week.
Bayern’s Numbers Under Kompany
The attacking output has been just as sharp. Bayern scored 94 league goals in Kompany’s first season in charge in 2024/25, then reached 116 goals with two matches remaining in the current campaign. Their 3.3 goals per match under him is matched by 62 percent possession and a 90 percent pass completion rate.
The work rate has been part of the same pattern. Bayern are averaging 122.7 kilometres covered per match this season, the second-most in the league behind Hoffenheim, and they are covering seven kilometres more per match than they did in the season before Kompany arrived.
Max Eberl’s View Of Kompany
Max Eberl summed up the balance Bayern have found under their coach last month: “The way Vinny blends humanity with coaching is remarkable.” He added: “He is approachable, kind and open with everyone.”
“Yet on the pitch he knows exactly what he wants and how to get it,” Eberl said. That mix has left Bayern with a title record again and, with the DFB Cup and UEFA Champions League still in play, a chance for Kompany to become only the third Bayern boss to secure a treble.
