Liverpool are considering a move for RC Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare this summer, adding another name to a midfield market that is already unsettled in french league circles. The 23-year-old has put together a season that has pushed him into Liverpool’s orbit, with his output and contract status now part of the conversation.

Liverpool are expected to compete for his signature. Dominic King described a player like Sangare as “essential” for the next phase of Arne Slot’s plans, and said Liverpool’s traditional close scrutiny of Ligue 1 means they will be aware of the well-regarded Mali international who plays for Lens.

Lens may not be pushed into a quick sale. A £35m package could be enough for the French club to consider selling Sangare, which sets the bar far above the fee they paid less than a year ago.

He came through the Red Bull system with Salzburg, had loan spells across Austria and Belgium, completed a permanent move to Rapid in 2024 and then moved on to Lens, where he has become a consistent presence.
For Liverpool, the practical next step is simple: decide whether Sangare is worth meeting a price that starts at £35m. For Lens, the decision runs the other way, with a 23-year-old under contract until 2030 already strong enough to attract attention from a club preparing for another midfield reshuffle.
