Bonnie Tyler Hospitalized Portugal After Emergency Intestinal Surgery
Bonnie Tyler hospitalized Portugal after being admitted to hospital in Faro for emergency intestinal surgery. The 74-year-old singer was on her Jubilee Tour when the procedure happened.
A statement on her official website said, “We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery.” It added, “The surgery went well and she is now recuperating.”
Faro and her Jubilee Tour
Tyler’s hospitalization landed while she was moving through a tour built around 50 years since she started in the music industry. That puts the focus squarely on recovery time, because the tour was part of an active working schedule rather than a one-off appearance.
The 74-year-old has said touring keeps her going. In January 2025, she said, “Touring keeps me going. I consider myself a working-class girl and I’ve never stopped working.”
1973 to 2026
Tyler married Robert Sullivan in July 1973, broke out in 1976 with “Lost In France,” and represented the U.K. in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 with “Believe In Me.” Those dates map a long career that still had her on the road at 74, which is why this hospital stay is more than a routine health note.
In April 2024, “Total Eclipse of the Heart” reached No. 2 on the U.S. iTunes charts ahead of the total solar eclipse and hit number 84 on YouTube’s top 100 music video chart. For a singer whose catalog still moves when the moment is right, the immediate question is how long she remains off the road while she recuperates in Portugal.
