Mike Greenberg Leads ESPN Studio Shows to 21% April Gain
mike greenberg has ’s studio lineup coming out of April with a 21% year-over-year viewership gain. The strongest lift came from SportsCenter at 2pm ET, which averaged 394,000 viewers and rose 64% from April 2025.
SportsCenter at 2pm ET
394,000 viewers made the 2pm ET edition the clearest driver of the month’s gains. That window led all shows in April, and its 64% year-over-year jump gives a daytime slot that is outperforming the broader studio schedule by a wide margin.
529,000 viewers watched the 6pm ET SportsCenter in April, up 28%, while Get Up averaged 447,000 viewers and increased 24%. All SportsCenter windows combined averaged 643,000 viewers for the month, giving the franchise most of the network’s studio momentum.
PTI and First Take
719,000 viewers made PTI’s 5:30pm ET half-hour its best April since 2017. First Take averaged 491,000 viewers in April, up 6%, a smaller gain than the SportsCenter windows but still enough to keep the show in positive territory as the network’s lineup expanded.
The comparison base matters here: studio programs had already grown 14% in Q1 before April’s 21% increase. That leaves the network with a broader run of strength rather than a single good month, and it puts more weight on whether the 2pm ET growth can hold if the schedule around it changes.
MLB Network’s 2026 pace
460,000 viewers tuned in for Mariners-Padres on April 16, the best MLB Network regular-season game since July 2025. In MLB Network’s 18th season, all live games are averaging 228,000 viewers, up 36%, while Showcase games are averaging 350,000 viewers, also up 36%.
The Padres and Guardians have posted the best audience growth among all teams on MLB Network this season to date, and the channel’s MLB Central is up 40% while MLB Now is up 11%. That kind of spread suggests the April studio lift is not isolated to; the cable sports audience is rewarding the strongest time slots and matchups, not the entire slate equally.
The next test is whether those gains carry into the rest of spring, especially in the 2pm ET hour where the biggest jump is concentrated. If that window keeps holding above its April level, it becomes harder for rivals to ignore and easier for to build around it.
