Priyanka Chopra and Orlando Bloom Join Reset for August Production

priyanka chopra jonas and Orlando Bloom are set to star in Reset, a survival thriller that heads into production in August. Matt Smukler is directing the film from Jordan Rawlins’ script, giving the project two recognizable leads before it reaches Cannes for international sales.

Smukler’s August start

The casting puts Chopra Jonas in the role of a woman who wakes up in the wilderness days from civilization with no memory of how she got there. Bloom will play the charming stranger she has to trust, even as he may not be what he seems.

Smukler said he wanted “a pairing where attraction and mistrust could effortlessly coexist,” and added, “Priyanka and Orlando have this uncanny ability to make you believe both at once.” That kind of setup is built for a contained thriller, where the cast carries most of the selling power before a frame is shot.

Cannes sales and financing

Fortitude International is financing Reset and launching international sales at the Marché du Film in Cannes, with Verve Ventures, UTA, and WME Independent co-repping North American rights. That gives the project a commercial push while production is still in motion, and it also signals that the film is being positioned as more than a simple package announcement.

The producing group is spread across Fratricidal Films, Chemically Altered, Rhodes Entertainment, Purple Pebble Pictures, and Amazing Owl, with Nadine de Barros executive producing. Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber said, “Jordan Rawlins and Matt Smukler have created a gripping story of survival, romance, suspense, and deceit, replete with shocking twists, and we’re thrilled to have partnered with Priyanka and Orlando to bring it to the screen.”

Priyanka Chopra’s recent run

Chopra Jonas arrives with recent momentum across film and streaming. She recently led and produced The Bluff, which debuted at number one on Prime Video worldwide, and she also starred alongside Idris Elba and John Cena in Heads of State, which has more than 75 million views.

She has also starred in and executive produced The White Tiger, executive produced the Oscar-nominated short Anuja and the Oscar-nominated feature documentary To Kill a Tiger, and will next be seen in Season 2 of Prime Video’s Citadel and in Varanasi, the action-adventure film from S.S. Rajamouli.

Bloom’s producer credits

Bloom comes into Reset after recent work that keeps him active on both sides of the camera. He recently received rave reviews for The Cut, which he also starred in and produced through Amazing Owl, and he was recently seen in Deep Cover, which was nominated for Best Movie Made for Television at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

He next stars opposite Rooney Mara and Kate Mara in Werner Herzog’s Bucking Fastard, making Reset part of a run that keeps him in circulation with both prestige and genre projects. For a survival thriller built around suspicion, the cast is already doing the work of the premise.
