Michael Gandolfini ties Season 2 finale to Daredevil Season 3

michael gandolfini said the Season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again points straight to Season 3. The finale is out now on Disney+, and it ends with Matt Murdock telling the world he is Daredevil before being locked up at Rikers Island.

Dario Scardapane said that courtroom turn was the direction the show had been moving toward from the start. “That last scene in Season 2 tells you where we’re going,” he said in a recent video call.

Season 2 courtroom reveal

The finale’s central beat comes during the trial of Karen Page, where Murdock declares himself to be the vigilante. Scardapane said, “If the question is, are we doing a specific comic book run that is beloved by all, including me, I think that it’s pretty obvious what we’re doing in that last scene.”

That puts the series on a sharper track than a simple season-ending tease. The reveal is not just a costume note or a fight beat; it moves the story into public fallout, with the courtroom serving as the place where Murdock’s secret stops being private.

Iain B. MacDonald on the shoot

Iain B. MacDonald, who directed Episodes 7 and 8, said he and Jeffrey Waldron looked at a lot of courtroom dramas while planning those scenes. He said the reveal “was going to be a super significant moment” and that it was “a challenge, for sure, [but] I really, really enjoyed shooting them.”

MacDonald also said he and Charlie Cox talked about ending on a close-up of Murdock’s face. “He said we can do two things here, one which is like acceptance of circumstances, like he’s resigned. He has made the sacrifice of outing himself to the world about who he really is [and] he has put himself away in service of the greater good … as well as have that little moment of a hint of a smile to say, this is a beginning. This is a new adventure. This is a new challenge,” MacDonald said.

Rikers Island and Season 3

The final moments make the season’s business clear: Murdock is shown getting locked up at Rikers Island, so the next phase is not about whether the reveal happened but about what it costs him now. Scardapane said the consequences of that revelation will be explored in Season 3, which means the series is shifting from secrecy to fallout.

That is the more interesting move for the show. After 2018, when Netflix’s Daredevil initially concluded, Daredevil: Born Again has been built as a continuation, and this finale finally commits to a public break that Season 3 will have to deal with on screen.
