Jaydn Su'a Stays With Dragons Through June 30 Deadline

Jaydn Su'a will stay at St George Illawarra through the end of the season, shutting down any chance of an early move before the June 30 trade deadline. The second-rower has already signed with Parramatta from the start of 2027, but the Dragons have now ruled out releasing him sooner.

Su'a and the Dragons

That call keeps one of St George Illawarra's most reliable forwards in place while the club tries to finish the year with some stability under interim coach Dean Young. Su'a has been one of the Dragons' best since arriving from the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and he remains part of the side even though his future has already been mapped out beyond this season.

He is currently out suspended and will only be eligible to return after Magic Round. That means the Dragons will have to manage without him for the short term, even as they keep him for the rest of the campaign.

Parramatta's injury push

Parramatta had asked about bringing Su'a in early because of an injury hit that included season-ending setbacks for Matt Doorey and J'maine Hopgood. The interest came before June 30, but the door on an immediate switch has now been slammed shut.

The Eels still have a deal in place for 2027, so this decision does not change where Su'a is headed long term. It does settle the immediate question for both clubs: he stays in red and white until the season ends, and Parramatta has to patch its pack another way while those injuries linger.

Dean Young's selection squeeze

Young inherited a zero and seven side from Shane Flanagan, and the Dragons are still trying to salvage something from the campaign. Keeping Su'a through the run home also affects how they handle younger forwards such as Ryan Couchman, Dylan Egan and Luciano Leilua, all of whom are being pushed for minutes.

For Dragons fans, the practical takeaway is simple. Su'a remains available to the club for the rest of the year once his suspension clears, Parramatta cannot accelerate his arrival, and the trade deadline passes without changing his path to 2027.
