Priyanka Chopra Returns as Citadel Season 2 Streams Quietly
citadel season 2 is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video after arriving with little promotion and no cast publicity. Priyanka Chopra returns in a release that looks nothing like the first season’s global rollout, and that change is the point: a high-cost spy series that once traveled everywhere now showed up almost quietly.
The second season was announced two weeks before it was set to stream, with a trailer following one week later. A poster went up on the show’s official Instagram page and was reposted by the cast, but there were no cast interviews and no grand premiere when the episodes arrived.
Prime Video’s quieter play
The release pattern matters because season 1 in 2023 was treated like a major event, with premieres in four cities, including Mumbai, and Richard Madden flying down to India for the launch. Priyanka Chopra and Madden spoke to over 100 mediapersons in Asia alone, with an equal number of mediapersons from Europe and North America also talking to the cast.
By comparison, the season 2 rollout leaned on a trailer, a poster, and an Instagram message rather than the kind of full-scale media tour that usually accompanies a $300-million series. One day before release, the Russos posted “no spoiler please” on Instagram, and that was about as much noise as the campaign made.
52% and the earlier baggage
Citadel’s first season drew mixed reviews and holds a 52% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating, with criticism centered on pacing and an underdeveloped story. It was also marred by extensive reshoots, while Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec departed midway as original showrunners because of creative differences with the Russos.
Priyanka Chopra denied there were any extensive reshoots for season 2, even as reports said the second run went through a topsy-turvy development process. The spinoffs Diana and Honey Bunny were cancelled after season 2 went into production in 2024, which left the franchise with less of the larger rollout that once surrounded it.
All episodes of citadel season 2 are streaming now, so the practical move is simple: watch the season itself and judge whether the stripped-back launch fits a show that once needed four cities and a global press blitz to make its point. For Prime Video, the muted rollout reads less like confidence than a reset.
