Naga Munchetty bruised after fall on gravelly country lane

Naga Munchetty said she was left bruised and battered after a fall while running on a very gravelly country lane. The Breakfast presenter said she went down hard and had blood on her hand, but added that she expected to recover.

“I fell over running. It was bad, bad, bad – and very annoying,” she said. “I’ll recover, but I’m bruised and battered with a little bit of blood here and there.”

Munchetty's gravel fall

Munchetty said she automatically threw her arms out to cushion the fall, then worried about her palm. “I’m not sure if I have gravel embedded in the skin of my palm – it’s not massively deep but I don’t want to stick a pin in to try and dig it out,” she said.

That detail points to a cut that was visible but not described as serious. Her account also shows how quickly a run can turn into an injury when a lane is loose underfoot.

Running after 2013 injury

The fall also lands against her own running history. Munchetty previously vowed never to run the London marathon again after injuring her leg during the race in 2013.

She is 51 years old and has already described one running injury that changed what she was willing to do next. This latest fall adds another setback, even if she said the damage was limited to bruising, blood and a painful palm.

Last month's Carol Kirkwood row

The injury comes after a difficult stretch on air last month, when viewers criticized Munchetty for comments she made toward Carol Kirkwood on Kirkwood’s last day. Munchetty was one of the only presenters not to make a pre-recorded solo tribute, and later joined Dan Walker, Mike Bushell and Matt Taylor on the sofa with Kirkwood.

During that appearance, Munchetty told Kirkwood, “I’m just waiting for the countdown for you to go!” and later interrupted her while handing over a framed illustration by Adam Hargreaves. The exchange left Munchetty once again in the middle of public criticism, while Kirkwood moved toward her final day on the programme.
