Marco Penge Withdraws at Myrtle Beach Before PGA Championship — Pga Tour Golfer Withdrawal
Marco Penge’s pga tour golfer withdrawal cut the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic field on Wednesday, with the 27-year-old stepping out because of health reasons. He said the problem is nothing serious, but he wants to be fully fit for next week’s PGA Championship at Aronimink.
Marco Penge and Myrtle Beach
Penge posted the move on X and gave the clearest version of the decision in his own words: “Unfortunately I have had to WD from this week at Myrtle Beach due to health reasons.” He added, “It's nothing serious i just need to get fully fit for next week at the PGA Championship.”
The withdrawal makes Penge the sixth player to come out of the event this week. Andrew Putnam and Austin Smotherman also withdrew, and Troy Merritt and James Hahn were added as alternates to complete the tournament line-up at Dunes Golf and Beach Club in South Carolina.
Aronimink and the major
For Penge, the choice comes with a clear tradeoff. He is ranked 39th in the world, secured his PGA Tour card for the 2026 season after winning three times in six months on the DP World Tour in 2025, and will make his sixth major appearance next week.
His recent form has been mixed. He made the cut at Augusta National in his Masters debut last month and finished tied for 49th, then finished tied fourth at the Valspar Championship in March, but he has also missed five cuts in 11 starts in his rookie PGA Tour season.
The Myrtle Beach field still goes on without him, with Brooks Koepka headlining the opposite-field event. Penge’s decision leaves the tournament shorthanded by one more player, while keeping his focus on Aronimink and the PGA Championship next week.
