Toronto road closures set for Sporting Life 10k and 24,000 runners
Toronto will close multiple major roads on Sunday morning for the sporting life 10k, with the race expected to draw over 24,000 participants. The 26th-year event starts at 7:30 a.m. at 2810 Yonge St. and finishes at Front Street East and Cherry Street.
Yonge Street and Front Street
The route runs south down Yonge Street, then east onto Front Street and toward Cherry Street. That means Yonge Street will be closed between Lawrence Avenue and Eglinton Avenue from 4 a.m. until noon, then again between Eglinton Avenue and Front Street from 6:30 a.m. until noon.
Front Street will also be shut between Eastern Avenue and Bayview Avenue from 4 a.m. until 2 p.m., before a second closure kicks in between Yonge Street and Eastern Avenue from 6:30 a.m. until noon. The multi-wave system gives participants different start times based on the estimated finishing time they provided when they registered.
Bayview Avenue and Mill Street
Bayview Avenue will be closed between River Street and Mill Street from 4 a.m. until 5 p.m., while Mill Street will be closed between Tannery Road and Bayview Avenue over the same hours. Those closures begin before sunrise, which leaves a long stretch of Sunday tied up around the route and finish area.
Kelly Barr is among the runners taking part, joining 24,000 other participants on a course that has drawn more than 23,000 runners in 2025 and marked its 25th anniversary in Toronto that year. Proceeds from the 10-kilometre race go to Campfire Circle, which supports medically backed camp programs for children with cancer or other serious illness.
Sunday Race Impact
For anyone driving through downtown, the practical move is simple: avoid Yonge Street, Front Street, Bayview Avenue and Mill Street during the closure windows and plan for the route to be active from 4 a.m. through the afternoon. The shortest gaps come at noon and 2 p.m.; Bayview Avenue and Mill Street stay restricted until 5 p.m.
