Janai Norman left GMA Weekend after ABC declined to renew her contract, and the response from former Good Morning America colleagues arrived fast. Norman said on April 3 that she was leaving the weekend edition after ABC declined to renew her contract. She had joined GMA Weekend in 2019 as the Pop News host and was promoted to anchor in 2022, so her exit closes a run that moved from feature reporting into a top weekend chair.
“I hoped that we’d have more time, and it’s been hard on me that our time was cut short,” Norman said in her Instagram video. “I have loved my job.” She added that she has “three young kids” and that “I have worked weekends their whole lives.”
