Macron Urges Hms Dragon to Lift Hormuz Blockades
Emmanuel Macron called for “all parties to lift the blockades” so traffic can resume in the Strait of Hormuz after meeting Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian. The appeal came as hms dragon tensions were building around shipping in the Gulf of Oman and wider talks over Iran’s role in the war.
Macron’s statement put the Strait of Hormuz back at the center of the dispute. US forces disabled an Iran-flagged unladen oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman on Wednesday, and the US Central Command said the vessel was trying to sail towards an Iranian port.
Macron and Pezeshkian
Macron made the call after his meeting with Pezeshkian on Wednesday. The French president’s wording was direct: “all parties to lift the blockades.”
That appeal focused on restoring traffic through the Hormuz strait, a route now caught between diplomatic talk and military pressure. The same day, Iran said it was reviewing a US peace proposal.
US pressure on Tehran
Trump said on Wednesday that a deal with Iran to end the war was “very possible” after “very good talks” over the past 24 hours. In the Oval Office, he said, “We’ll see whether or not they are agreeing. And if they don’t agree, they’ll end up agreeing shortly thereafter. That’s the way it is.”
He also said he expected the war would be “over quickly” and issued a fresh ultimatum to Tehran, telling it to accept a deal or face a new wave of US bombing “at a much higher level and intensity than it was before.”
Shipping route under strain
The Hormuz appeal landed while other pressure points were active in the region. Israel’s military attacked Beirut’s southern suburbs for the first time in weeks, and an Israeli strike in Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa valley killed four people.
Pope Leo joined a video call from Rome with 13 priests from southern Lebanon on Wednesday, adding another sign of how widely the conflict was reaching. For shipping interests, Macron’s message was the clearest diplomatic push in the record: reopen the strait, remove the blockades, and let traffic move again.
