Rain Pushes Palou’s Indycar Qualifying to Saturday Morning
Persistent rain and pooling water on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course pushed Indycar qualifying for the Sonsio Grand Prix to Saturday morning, May 9. The change shifts one of the weekend’s key sessions into Saturday and leaves Friday ticket holders without a Saturday admission option.
Palou Sets the Pace
Alex Palou led both practice sessions in dry conditions earlier Friday in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. The four-time series champion has won the event for the last three years on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course, so the postponed qualifying run now follows a day he already controlled.
Saturday Schedule at IMS
Live coverage of qualifying is set for 10:30 a.m. on FS2, FOX One and INDYCAR Radio powered by OnlyBulls, with the three-round session beginning at 10:45 a.m. Coverage moves to FS1 at 11:30 a.m., and the warmup session scheduled for 11:40 a.m. has been canceled.
The 85-lap race remains scheduled for 4:30 p.m., keeping the rest of the day in place even after the delay to qualifying. For fans at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the immediate shift is simple: the session that decides the starting order will now happen on Saturday morning, and Friday admission tickets will not be honored Saturday.
