Zaccagni Misses The Evening Match
The clearest late change came with Zaccagni. Lazio’s captain took a knock in Friday’s training session and was not called up for the evening match, removing one of Sarri’s most important options on a night when the team needed points in the league and rhythm for Wednesday.
Zaccagni was expected to be available for the final on Wednesday, which kept the injury from becoming a longer-term problem for Lazio’s week. Even with that absence, Sarri’s choices pointed to a team trying to avoid unnecessary disruption before the second meeting with Inter.
Seventh Place And The Coppa Italia
The league table still gave Lazio something concrete to chase. Seventh place in Serie A would bring Conference League qualification, and Atalanta held that spot by four points. If Lazio won the Coppa Italia, though, the league route would stop mattering because the cup victory would bring Europa League qualification instead.
Sarri’s own future sits in the background of the same run of games. He has two more years of contract with Lazio, and when asked about what comes next he said, “Ne parleremo a fine stagione”. For now, though, the immediate job is narrower: get through Inter today without wasting bodies, then reach Wednesday with enough of the squad intact to matter in the final.
