WWE Backlash 2026: Full Match Card, Start Time, Roman Reigns vs Jacob Fatu and Everything to Know
WWE Backlash 2026 is tonight, and the first premium live event since WrestleMania 42 is loaded with high-stakes championship matches, long-simmering feuds finally getting their payoff, and a mystery partner reveal that has the internet buzzing. Here is everything you need to know before the action kicks off in Tampa, Florida.
WWE Backlash 2026 Date, Time, Location and How to Watch
WWE Backlash 2026, promoted as Backlash: Tampa, takes place Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida. It is the 21st edition of the Backlash event series and marks WWE's first major event held in Tampa since Hell in a Cell in 2021.
The show begins at 6 PM ET on ESPN Unlimited in the United States. This marks the first Backlash to livestream on ESPN in the US, and the first hour will be simulcast on ESPN2, making it the first Backlash to air on an ESPN linear channel. WWE's contract with Peacock expired at the conclusion of Clash in Paris in August 2025. Internationally, the event streams on Netflix. The special 6 PM ET start time was set to lower the risk of clashing with the UFC 328 main card.

Roman Reigns vs Jacob Fatu: The World Heavyweight Championship Main Event
After winning the men's Royal Rumble in January 2026, Roman Reigns subsequently won the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of Night 2 of WrestleMania 42. Reigns and The Usos reunited the following night on Raw, but they were interrupted by Jacob Fatu, who stated that he wanted everything Reigns had — including the title — before challenging him to a championship match at Backlash.
Moments after both superstars signed the contract on the final Raw before Backlash, Fatu locked in the Tongan Death Grip on Roman Reigns and drove the OTC through a table, sending a vicious statement heading into tonight.
Fatu has been booked as one of the strongest competitors on either roster, and WWE has done a tremendous job protecting the Tongan Death Grip, raising questions about what that could mean heading into the summer.
Bron Breakker vs Seth Rollins: A Delayed Reckoning
Former friends in The Vision faction, an injury to Rollins led to a pivot that kicked him out of the group and effectively made Breakker the leader in 2025. A hernia injury to Breakker that required surgery then forced what could have been a WrestleMania showdown to be delayed all the way to Backlash.
On the go-home Raw, Breakker launched a brutal attack on Rollins, dropping him face-first into the barricade and sending him shoulder-first into the ring steps. The personal heat between these two is as real as any feud on the WWE Backlash 2026 card.
Iyo Sky vs Asuka: A Feud Built Over Months
After SummerSlam 2025, Asuka confronted Iyo Sky multiple times, and on the September 22 episode of Raw, Asuka and a conflicted Kairi Sane betrayed Sky. The long-running rivalry moved through Crown Jewel, Survivor Series: WarGames, and beyond, ultimately setting up their singles showdown at WWE Backlash 2026.
The match has potential to steal the show and could have been on the WrestleMania card itself.
Trick Williams vs Sami Zayn and the Danhausen Mystery Partner
The United States Championship bout between Trick Williams and Sami Zayn is the only direct rematch from WrestleMania 42 on the entire WWE Backlash 2026 card. Zayn will be looking to reclaim the title he lost at WrestleMania last month.
Danhausen's mystery tag team partner has become the most speculated topic surrounding WWE Backlash 2026. CM Punk is currently listed as the betting favorite to fill that role, with growing talk of Jelly Roll also potentially appearing after original plans reportedly linked him to a Backlash match before creative changes shifted focus elsewhere. Whoever steps through that curtain will make one of the night's loudest moments on the WWE Backlash 2026 card.
