2026 Truist Championship

The 2026 Truist Championship is in full swing at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, with Round 2 now complete. Sungjae Im holds the 36-hole lead as the PGA Tour's last major warm-up before next week's PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club plays out this weekend.

2026 Truist Championship Round 2 Leaderboard

Sungjae Im led the field after Round 2 at 9-under, followed by Tommy Fleetwood at 8-under. Rory McIlroy sits at 5-under, well within striking distance of the top of the leaderboard with two rounds to play.

Player Score After R2
Sungjae Im -9
Tommy Fleetwood -8
Rory McIlroy -5 (T8)

Matt McCarty shot an opening-round 63 to grab the early first-round lead.

Rory McIlroy Back in Form After Masters Win

Rory McIlroy rose 21 places on Day 2 of the 2026 Truist Championship with a 4-under 67, leaving the two-time defending Masters champion sitting tied for eighth. McIlroy is making his first PGA Tour start since winning back-to-back green jackets in April.

McIlroy heated up on the back nine Friday at Quail Hollow and finished with a 4-under 67 to climb into contention, four shots behind 36-hole leader Sungjae Im.

"I was thinking I can't remember the last time I played a round of golf and didn't have a birdie," McIlroy said after requiring 17 consecutive pars before finally draining a birdie on the ninth hole in Round 1. His second trip through Quail Hollow went considerably better.

Why Scottie Scheffler Withdrew From the Truist Championship

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is opting to take a week off, which comes as no surprise. Scheffler, who has finished second in his last three tournaments, likes to take the week off before a major and has actually never played in this event.

Collin Morikawa was also a late withdrawal from the Truist Championship, likely continuing to rest his back following an injury at The Players Championship. Russell Henley is another big name absent from the field this week.

The Truist Championship Field and Key Contenders

Seven of the world's current top 10 are playing at Quail Hollow despite the absences. Cameron Young — last week's runaway winner at the Cadillac Championship and currently No. 3 in the world — is in the field.

Pre-tournament Truist Championship odds listed McIlroy as the +600 favorite, with Cameron Young at +950 following his wire-to-wire win at the Cadillac Championship last week. Xander Schauffele (+1000), Matt Fitzpatrick (+1500), and Ludvig Åberg (+1800) rounded out the other top contenders.

Truist Championship as PGA Championship Warm-Up

The Truist Championship marks the fifth $20 million Signature Event of the PGA Tour season, with $3.6 million going to the winner. It also acts as the final warm-up for the PGA Championship, the year's second major, which gets underway next week at Aronimink Country Club.

Quail Hollow's demands align closely with what Aronimink will require — distance, shot-shaping capability, and iron quality all correlate strongly with success at both venues. The Green Mile at holes 16, 17, and 18 at Quail Hollow has ended more than a few would-be coronations and will create drama again this weekend as the weekend rounds begin.
