Myśliwiec backs Piast Gliwice before Piast Gliwice – Gks Katowice derby
Piast Gliwice – Gks Katowice arrives at Okrzei on Sunday, 10 May at 12:15 with both sides carrying clear pressure. Piast is still fighting to secure survival, while GKS remains in the race for the podium.
Daniel Myśliwiec said his team used the last such week for harder training and regeneration, and he believes Piast is ready for the derby. He also said the club is chasing its seventh league win of the season and wants full points rather than calculations about survival.
Myśliwiec and Okrzei
Myśliwiec framed the game as more than a date on the calendar because it is Piast’s second-to-last home match. He said the side wants to say goodbye to Okrzei with dignity and leave a good impression, while also keeping its focus on what happens on the pitch.
“To był ostatni taki tydzień, w którym mogliśmy mocniej potrenować. Piłkarze pracowali bardzo ciężko, ale był też czas na regenerację. Po dzisiejszym treningu uważam, że drużyna jest bardzo dobrze przygotowana” — Myśliwiec said before the match.
GKS Katowice and Piast
The derby has changed since November, when the same fixture looked like a meeting between sides expected to fight relegation. Now GKS is one of the season’s revelations, and Myśliwiec said it is in the hunt for a medal while Piast could be higher in the table if it had avoided a few slip-ups.
He also pointed to a tactical concern that shaped Piast’s work this week. After the match against Korona Kielce, the team spent the first days of the week on defending crosses.
“W Kielcach słabo broniliśmy dośrodkowań i nad tym pracowaliśmy przez pierwsze dni tygodnia” — he said.
Dominik Holec and the build-up
Myśliwiec also addressed Dominik Holec after the goalkeeper’s build-up issues against Korona Kielce, saying the problem was more a one-off moment than a deeper concern. He described it as fatigue from an intense period and said such situations show where the line of risk sits for the team.
“W jego przypadku było widać zmęczenie wynikające z intensywnego okresu. To był bardziej wypadek przy pracy niż problem. Takie sytuacje są jednak dla nas informacją, gdzie jest granica ryzyka” — Myśliwiec said.
For Piast, the immediate task is simple: beat GKS and keep the survival push moving, with one victory still standing between the team and the goal it set for itself. For supporters at Okrzei, the afternoon also carries the weight of one of the final chances to see the side at home before the season runs out.
