Josh Windass Says He Will Stay at Wrexham on Three-Year Deal

Josh Windass said he will stay at Wrexham next season and dismissed the exit chatter that had followed him through links with Rangers and MLS rumours. The 32-year-old also said he signed a three-year deal in the summer, keeping him in place after a first year that ended with 16 goals and five assists.

Windass Stays At Wrexham

“Yeah, I signed a three-year deal in the summer.” Windass said that when asked whether he would remain at the club. He then shut down the MLS talk with a sharper line: “Yeah, it must be a fake account because I'm not.”

He added: “I'm going to America on holiday in the next few weeks, that's about it.” That leaves Wrexham with one of their most productive attackers still under contract as they prepare for another Championship season after finishing sixth.

Record Season For Wrexham

Windass arrived last summer on a free transfer after his contract at Sheffield Wednesday expired, and he quickly became central to Wrexham’s promotion push. In 41 Championship appearances, he scored 16 goals and supplied five assists, and no Wrexham player had scored as many goals in a single season in England’s second tier before him.

His final-day strike summed up the season. He scored a 30-yard free-kick equaliser in Wrexham’s 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough, a point that still left the club sixth after Hull moved ahead of them on the final day.

Rangers Links And Future

Earlier in the season, Windass had been linked with a return to Rangers, and Santos made an offer during the 2025 winter transfer window. He declined that move, then finished the campaign as Wrexham’s Player of the Season.

For Wrexham, the immediate benefit is clear: their record-setting scorer is staying put. Windass said he felt he had “a really good year this year” and hoped that “next year we can go one better,” which gives the club a proven finisher as they try again in the Championship.
