Bono’s daughter Jordan Joy launches debut single with new EP in motion
bono’s eldest daughter Jordan Joy released her debut single, “Don’t Kill the Vibe,” on April 24, and the timing turns her into more than a late-blooming name-check. She is 37 on May 10, lives in London, and has an EP in the chamber while her debut album is still taking shape.
April 24 and the first release
April 24 gave Joy her first official music release after years spent building a different career path. “I took the long road, but I'm so glad that I did,” she said, and the single lands as the start of a new creative chapter rather than a one-off side project.
11 years in New York shaped the runway to that point. Joy grew up playing classical piano, studied poetry in college, and then moved into a social impact job, where she was building a company focused on helping people act on causes they cared about through software that supported donations and civic action.
New York, London, and a reset
During the pandemic, she went home to be with her family during lockdown and expected to return to New York in eight to 12 weeks. Instead, the border to non-Americans stayed closed for two years, and she said she lived out of a suitcase for a year and a half while her move stretched far beyond the original plan.
At about 18 months, Joy said she thought she was going to have to let New York go. “It was a very abrupt ending, my life in New York,” she said, and that break explains why the debut single arrives with a different kind of perspective attached to it.
Bono’s reality checks
Joy said she is working on music while living in London, where she called the city “It's the most stimulating city in the world.” She also said, “I had to grow up to write this music,” and that she thinks more women should be doing it at different stages of their life.
That framing gives “Don’t Kill the Vibe” a practical edge: it is a debut, but not the work of someone trying to sound 22 again. The release positions Joy for the next step in public view, with the EP already in motion and the album not yet out the door.
