Launceston Couple Tattslotto Win Delivers $2.5 Million Sunday Drive Surprise

A Launceston couple’s launceston couple tattslotto win turned a Sunday morning drive into a $2.5 million windfall after The Lott called to tell them they had taken out division 1. The husband and wife had been waiting 17 years for the result and heard the news while out driving.

The woman’s first reaction was disbelief. “No, this is a joke. This is really a joke. It can't be true. You have no idea what this means,” she said after the call, while her husband called it “What a lovely Mother's Day present,”.

Prospect Marketplace News ticket

The winning ticket was a 12-game QuickPick bought at Prospect Marketplace News, and it was one of eight winners sharing a $20 million pool. The winning Superdraw numbers were 12, 11, 2, 33, 37 and 17, with supplementary numbers 36 and 41.

Store owner Ravi Teja Varma said the shop had been waiting nearly two decades to sell another division 1 winner. “We're so excited, so happy... we've been waiting for a long time,” he said, adding that Carole, who looks after Tatts at the store, has worked there for 15-plus years.

First home plans

The couple said they have always dreamt of owning their own home, and the man said they might start looking for their first home. “We might just go look for our first home. We've always talked about it. We won't be renting anymore,” he said.

He also said he might buy a bottle of champagne that afternoon to celebrate, while Varma said, “I'm so happy for the customer who won the prize,” and “I hope it changes their life. I'm so grateful and happy.”
