Antigua draws 25,000 to Fuerteventura craft fair

Antigua on fuerteventura drew about 25,000 visitors to the 37th Feria Insular de Artesanía on 10 and 11 May 2026. The municipality of Antigua and the Fundación Colectivo Mafasca described the fair as a full success, while police said there were no incidents during the two-day event.

Jonathan Peña, the councilor for culture in Antigua, said sales exceeded the expectations of more than 90 percent of the roughly 200 participating artisans from all the Canary Islands. That scale put the fair among the island’s most important economic events after FEAGA, with organizers pointing to a strong regional turnout rather than a narrow local crowd.

Margarita de Vera said there was a "ständigen Besucherstrom" throughout the fair. She said most visitors were residents of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, and that many tourists were also on Fuerteventura that weekend. Good weather contributed to the turnout, she said, and all concerts and music events were completely full.

Domingo Fránquiz and security

The municipal police of Antigua coordinated the security and prevention operation under deputy police chief Domingo Fránquiz. The plan involved the civil protection services of Antigua and Betancuria, emergency services, and the Guardia Civil, and the mayor of Antigua thanked the companies, municipal employees, and security forces involved.

The fair now leaves a clear marker for exhibitors: the visitor flow translated into sales for most of the 200 artisans, and the lack of incidents kept the event moving without disruption. For the municipality, the next test is whether Antigua can repeat that combination of crowd size, sales, and security at the same level at future editions.
