Betis and Elche meet in La Cartuja with survival and Europe at stake — Real Betis - Elche C. F.
Real Betis - Elche C. F. arrives at La Cartuja on Tuesday afternoon with both clubs carrying real pressure into the antepenultimate round of La Liga. Betis are chasing the extra Champions League place after drawing in San Sebastián, while Elche start the round only two points above the relegation zone.
La Cartuja and the table
The game is the third meeting between the teams this season after league and Copa del Rey matches, so neither side is walking into unfamiliar territory. For Betis, the target is clear: keep pace in the race for that extra Champions League place. For Elche, any positive result would move them closer to survival.
Eder Sarabia put the stakes in plain terms: “Ahora estamos peleando por lo que nos corresponde”. His team needed that edge because a win at La Cartuja would amount to more than half of the survival job, while a defeat could push Elche into the relegation zone depending on the rest of the round.
Elche travel with losses
Elche reached Seville with Yago de Santiago and Adam Boayar unavailable, and Sarabia kept the doubt over Rafa Mir until the end. Álvaro Rodríguez also arrived in Seville on Monday afternoon after receiving news of his father's death, a painful turn in a week already shaped by the table and the trip south.
Support around the team was set to be substantial despite the midweek setting. About 300 Elche supporters were expected in La Cartuja, with three buses leaving from Elche at midnight and others making the journey on their own.
Betis' left side
Betis were without Aitor Ruibal because of suspension, and Ricardo Rodríguez was a doubt for the left wing after going through a febrile process. Even so, Lo Celso was expected to start, with Abde and Antony arriving in strong form as Betis tried to turn a home match into a step toward Europe.
That leaves the match balanced between urgency and calculation. Betis need the points to keep their Champions League push alive, and Elche need something from a ground where failure could drag them into the zone they are trying to escape.
