Grant Holmes Returns Tuesday For Cubs Vs Braves Start

Grant Holmes is scheduled to start Tuesday in cubs vs braves at Truist Park after 10 days off. The Braves are opening a three-game series against the Cubs with a rotation that has been stretched and reshuffled, and Holmes goes back in after not pitching since May 1.

Holmes Back In Truist Park

Holmes last pitched in Denver on May 1, when he allowed six runs, five earned, on seven hits. Atlanta rallied after he left and beat the Rockies 8-6, but his line showed the pressure on a starter trying to hold a spot in a staff that has leaned on multiple arms.

The right-hander has made seven starts this season and carries a 4.34 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP. His cleanest outing came April 3 at Arizona, when he delivered six innings and allowed one hit, the only start in which he did not give up at least one run.

Braves Rotation Juggle

The return comes as the Braves manage a four-man rotation that includes Chris Sale, Spencer Strider, Bryce Elder and JR Ritchie, while Holmes and Martín Pérez have been used as swingmen. Reynaldo López and Didier Fuentes have stayed in the bullpen as long relief options, a setup that keeps Tuesday’s start tied to the rest of the week rather than to one night alone.

That arrangement has held up well on the numbers. Braves starters own a 3.03 ERA and a.206 opponent average, both best in baseball, and the club enters the series at 28-13 with the Cubs one game back.

Ritchie And Sale Next

JR Ritchie is scheduled to make his fourth MLB start Wednesday after allowing seven earned runs in 17 1/3 innings. He walked six in five innings on May 4 in Seattle, when Atlanta lost 5-4.

Chris Sale is lined up for Thursday in the finale. He is 6-2 with a 2.20 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 49 innings through eight games, while Bryce Elder has gone 4-1 with a 1.81 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP. Holmes’ turn back on Tuesday starts a run that tests how far Atlanta can keep juggling roles without losing the edge its rotation has built.
