Anthony Edwards Scores 36 as Timberwolves – Spurs Tie Series 2-2

Anthony Edwards scored 36 points and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the San Antonio Spurs 114-109 in timberwolves – spurs on Sunday. The win tied the second-round series at 2-2 and kept Minnesota alive after Edwards had been working back from knee trouble.

Edwards Takes Over Late

Edwards scored 16 of his 36 points in the fourth quarter and played all 12 minutes of it. He finished 13 for 22 from the floor and 3 for 5 from 3-point range, then put Minnesota ahead for good with a finger-roll layup and 2:24 left that made it a four-point lead.

He logged 40 minutes in Game 4, one night after playing 41 minutes in Game 3 at home on Friday. That was a lot of load for a player still coming back from a hyperextended left knee that caused a deep bone bruise nine days earlier.

Mike Conley On Edwards

Mike Conley summed up the recovery in blunt terms: "Honestly, I think he would just now be coming back if he was like a normal human being, but he’s not". He also said, "We’re thankful for what he’s sacrificing for us and putting us on his back".

Chris Finch added a similar view after the game, saying, "We’re lucky to have him. He’s special, no doubt, especially given what he’s been fighting through over the last month and a half". Edwards had also been limited during the regular season, when persistent pain in his right knee helped cut him to a career-low 61 games.

Mother's Day And Game 4

The setting sharpened the edge of the result. Edwards said before the game that he could not lose it for his mother, Yvette Edwards, who died of cancer in 2015 when he was 13. Afterward, he said, "I was gassed a little bit" and added, "so I came out like super low on energy, just walking up and down the floor."

He also pointed to the work around him, saying, "Man, I’ve been doing a lot of stuff to get in shape. I've got the best physical therapist in the world when it comes to my body, David Hines, so big shoutout to him". Then he cut the subject short: "So I appreciate everybody that’s in my circle, but that’s enough about me," and turned the focus back to the series that now starts again at 2-2.
