Jamie Carragher Joins Marine as Adviser
jamie carragher has taken on an advisory role with Marine, giving the National League North club a high-profile local figure as it pushes ahead with growth and a new stadium plan. The former Liverpool defender will help the sixth-tier club in north Liverpool as it continues a rapid rise built on two promotions in five years.
Marine and Carragher
Carragher said he had enjoyed watching the club’s progress and was pleased to support Marine “in an advisory capacity going forward.” He also called it “a proper community football club with good people involved and a clear vision for where it wants to go,” after agreeing to the role.
The move adds a former Liverpool player with 737 appearances behind him to a club that has been moving fast on and off the pitch. Marine’s rise has included two promotions in the last five years, along with the boost it took from a historic FA Cup third-round tie against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham.
James Leary on Marine
Marine chief executive James Leary called the appointment “a brilliant moment for Marine Football Club,” and said Carragher is someone who “genuinely cares about football and the local community.” He added that Carragher has “followed closely what we’ve been building here over the last few years.”
Leary said Carragher’s “experience and relationships will be a huge help to the club as we continue moving Marine forward over the coming years.” That is the practical value of the appointment: Marine is still building, still climbing, and now has a well-known local voice attached to the next phase.
Sefton Council Plans
Marine has already secured an option on land for a new stadium development and expects to submit a full planning application to Sefton Council by September. For a club in the sixth tier, the timing of the appointment lines up with a period when football progress and infrastructure plans are moving together.
The advisory role gives Marine access to someone with deep football experience and a strong local profile while it continues to chase the kind of growth that has already carried it through two promotions and into a more ambitious phase.
