Dave Ryan Will Retire After 33 Years on KDWB

Dave Ryan will make his final broadcast on May 22 after 33 years on iHeartMedia Minneapolis’s 101.3 KDWB, ending one of the longest-running morning runs in Twin Cities radio history. He will then move into an ambassador role and remain part of the KDWB family.

Dave Ryan on KDWB

Ryan has hosted The Dave Ryan in the Morning Show on 101.3 KDWB for 33 years. The station has not announced the future morning lineup yet, leaving listeners with a clear date for his last show and no named replacement.

Ryan said, “All I can say is ‘Wow!’ I could not have imagined a more incredible experience than I’ve had, not just the last 33 years at KDWB, but in 46 years of radio. Having an outlet for fun and creativity has been wonderful, but it’s the connection with people who listen that has made this all so amazing. Being a part of your morning and being welcomed into your life has meant more to me than I can ever express.”

Rich Davis on Ryan

iHeart Minneapolis SVP of Programming Rich Davis called Ryan “a Twin Cities institution and one of the best to ever do it.” Davis added that Ryan “connected with listeners in a way that can’t be manufactured” and said his influence “helped shape KDWB and the lives of countless listeners who grew up with him.”

The transition keeps Ryan tied to the station, but it also closes a long stretch in its morning schedule. For listeners who have followed the show across decades, the practical change is simple: Ryan’s final live broadcast is set for May 22, and the next version of the morning lineup has not been named.
