Stretton backs Ulverston awards return for 2023 relaunch

ulverston’s Heart of Ulverston Awards will return on Friday, May 15, when finalists, guests and supporters gather for a black-tie ceremony and gala dinner at Coronation Hall. Winners in each category will be revealed during the evening, after hundreds of nominations were received from the community.

Coronation Hall, Ulverston

The awards were relaunched in 2023 by Ulverston-based PR firm 32West and are now in their third year. Frank Stretton, the company’s director, said: “Ulverston is uniquely special because of the community spirit shown day in, day out by its people and businesses.”

He added: “These awards are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the individuals, organisations and companies that do so much to make the town what it is. I’d like to wish all of the finalists the very best of luck for the awards evening on Friday.”

Heart of Ulverston shortlist

The shortlist came from the Heart of Ulverston Steering Group after it reviewed and discussed nominations from across all categories. Those categories include Helping Hand, Citizen of the Year, Community Group of the Year, Sports Volunteer of the Year, Employee of the Year and Best Hospitality Venue.

Other awards are Business in the Community, Teacher of the Year, Outstanding Courage, Sports Performance of the Year, Apprentice of the Year and the Environment and Sustainability Award. A Lifetime Achievement Award will also be presented on the night to an individual who has shown exceptional levels of commitment in any field over a sustained period of time.

Paul Hornby on the awards

Paul Hornby, awards sponsor and managing director of JF Hornby and Co Chartered Accountants, said: “We are delighted to be able to support these awards which bring forward and highlight the often unseen work and efforts of the people of Ulverston, as well as its dedicated groups and unique, independent businesses.” He added: “Every day, they do so much to make the town such a special place, and it’s fantastic to see that commitment recognised and celebrated.”

Winners will receive a bespoke crystal rose bowl created by Cumbria Crystal, a manufacturer of luxury lead crystal used in prestigious properties around the world. The event’s set piece is the announcement of the category winners, but the shortlist itself reflects the scale of local support behind the awards.
