Virgil Popescu Travels by Train as „u” Cluj - Universitatea Craiova Awaits Final
Virgil Popescu joined the Universitatea Craiova delegation on the train to Sibiu for the Cupa României final against „u” cluj - universitatea craiova. The match was scheduled to start at 20:00, and the trip put a member of the club’s ownership group inside the team’s traveling party on the day of the final.
Popescu With Craiova’s Travel Party
Popescu was co-opted into Universitatea Craiova’s ownership by Mihai Rotaru, and he traveled with the squad as the club went to Sibiu by rail. Rotaru was in the middle of the supporters on the train, giving the trip a more visible club feel than a routine transfer between cities.
The ownership link is only part of Popescu’s profile. He is the founder of Vectrum Solution, a company that provides construction and installation services and has worked with Penny, Lidl and Kaufland. He was also involved with the handball team of CS Dacia Mioveni in the past.
Casa Donescu And Slatina
His name has also circulated beyond football because of Casa Donescu, which he bought in 2024 for 703,000 euros. Popescu said the conac is in a poor state and that he wants to restore its original appearance, but rehabilitation cannot begin until approvals from Culte are obtained.
He has tied that property to his own background. Popescu said he and Gică Craioveanu are friends, that both were born in Slatina, and that he played football until 21 years old. He said the highest level he reached was Liga a III-a, played left back, and spent time with Armata Craiova between the ages of 20 and 21.
Final Night In Sibiu
For supporters, the travel choice mattered because the club did not just arrive in Sibiu for a final; it arrived with one of its owners in the train carriage and its investor at the center of the group. Universitatea Craiova’s trip framed the evening before the ball was kicked, with the final against U Cluj set for 20:00 and the club already moving as one unit toward the match.
