Osborn Stuns Stevenage in 94th Minute for Stockport Vs Stevenage 1-0

Ben Osborn’s 94th-minute winner gave stockport vs stevenage a 1-0 edge in the League One playoff semi-final first leg, putting Stockport County in control of the tie. The late strike at the Lamex Stadium leaves Stevenage needing a response at Edgeley Park on Wednesday.

Osborn lands the only blow

Stockport needed one clean chance and got it in stoppage time. Osborn poked home the winner in the 94th minute after a first leg that produced just two shots on target for each side.

The margin was narrow, but it was enough. Stockport took a 1-0 win from Saturday’s first leg and now carry that lead into the return match at home.

Stockport’s control at the Lamex

The numbers from the first leg leaned toward Stockport. They held 60.6% possession and won 10 corners to Stevenage’s four, a territorial edge that matched the final scoreline even in a low-chance match.

That corner count has repeated across the season series. Stockport won the corner battle in all three meetings between the teams this season, while Stevenage again struggled to turn periods without the ball into danger at the other end.

Stevenage away form

Stevenage arrive at the second leg with little margin for error. They have won only two of their last 13 away matches since Boxing Day and have failed to score more than once in any of those games.

The broader run is just as blunt. Stevenage have scored one or fewer goals in 13 of their last 14 fixtures, and 11 of those matches finished under 2.5 goals.

Dave Challinor’s side, meanwhile, have won ten of their last 13 home games in all competitions and now return to Edgeley Park with the tie on their terms. Alex Revell said after the first leg that it was "the goal but it doesn't really change anything," but the one-goal deficit still puts the pressure on Stevenage to find a breakthrough where they have been short of goals.
