That view was pushed further by Martin Samuel, who wrote that Palace should field a weakened team against Manchester City and argued that if Palace rotated against City and then against Arsenal, nobody could complain.

“I have just got the confirmation,” he said when asked who he works for. He then drew the line plainly: “We always consider what is best for us.”

Rotation was being discussed because of the European final against Arsenal, but Glasner’s comments make clear he will not frame Wednesday night around helping one rival or hurting another.
