Jamie Humphreys Nears Three-Year Perth Bears Deal for 2027
Jamie Humphreys is very, very close to agreeing to a three-year deal to go to Perth for 2027, a move that would shift South Sydney’s halfback plans after he arrived from Manly in 2025. He has played 24 games for the Rabbitohs and was one of their best last year in a season wrecked by injuries.

Adrian Proszenko said, “I'm hearing that Jamie Humphreys is very, very close to agreeing to a three-year deal to go to Perth,” and added, “A big body who could potentially play in the back-row, but my understanding is he has been signed as a half.” That leaves the Bears targeting him for the position South Sydney had been building around.
Humphreys’ own words last month now sit awkwardly beside the reported move. “I love this squad. I love being here. I love the fans. I love representing the history of the club and what it means to put on the South Sydney No.7 jersey. Long-term. I’d love to stay here,” he said.

Souths have not been able to offer him as much money as he would like, and the squeeze has grown around the big-money signing of Payne Haas from the Broncos. That has sharpened the pressure on the Rabbitohs’ halfback picture, especially with Ashton Ward having been seen as moving ahead of Humphreys in the race to wear the No.7 jersey long term.
Perth have already signed Toby Sexton and Tyran Wishart, with Wishart reportedly signed to play hooker. Humphreys would be another half in a roster that is already taking shape for the Bears’ entry season in 2027, while South Sydney would be left weighing how to replace a player who had been one of its more reliable contributors before this latest turn.

The wider market has already started moving around the same position group. Luke Metcalf has been given permission by the Warriors to speak to rival clubs after Tanah Boyd signed a long-term extension, and the Bulldogs and Dragons have been tipped as other suitors for Metcalf. For Perth, the Humphreys pursuit fits the same pattern: build the spine early, then lock in the halves before the 2027 season arrives.
