Harry Darling Reclaims Norwich City Role in Celtic Scote

The early signs were strong. Darling scored at Portsmouth and began the campaign with momentum, then found life harder once Clement’s influence took hold. That shift changed his standing in the squad, even though Norwich had signed him with a clear sense of why he fit the club.

Summer talks with Ben Knapper

Darling said the move had already felt right before he signed. “It’s a top club,” he said in a recent interview on the Beyond the Barclay podcast. “When Ben (Knapper) spoke to me in the summer, I’d come down a couple of times before I signed.”

He added that the club’s location and setup helped shape the decision. “Obviously, being so close to home, it’s not a long drive,” Darling said. “But the facilities are top-notch.” He also said, “It’s all ready to be a Premier League club, and I think Norwich deserves to be there.”

Those comments help explain why Norwich remained the place he chose, even with other options available 12 months ago. Swansea wanted to keep him as a free agent, and he could also have reunited with Russell Martin at Rangers. Instead, Darling kept to the path that brought him to Norwich and, later, back into the XI.

McConville and Cordoba pressure

The fight for that place was real. McConville and Cordoba improved significantly, making Darling’s return less routine than it might have looked from the outside. He did not just slot back in; he had to push past competition that had sharpened while he was slipping from view.

For Norwich, that leaves a useful late-season answer at centre back. Darling’s return gives the club another experienced option after a period in which his role looked less secure, and his own words point to a player who still sees the club as a place built for bigger things.
