Metropolitan Line Faces Severe Delays After Finsbury Park Fire Alert
Passengers on the metropolitan line faced severe delays during the evening rush hour after a fire alert at Finsbury Park and a signal failure at Russell Square. Several Tube and Overground lines were affected at the same time, adding suspensions and route changes across the capital.

The disruption reached the metropolitan line through earlier service problems that spread into the evening commute. A fire alert at Finsbury Park and a signal failure at Russell Square left severe delays across the entire line, while earlier train cancellations also caused minor delays on another route.
For passengers, the immediate issue was not just lateness on one line. The disruptions hit several services at once, meaning journeys that depended on transfers or through-running were more likely to be changed, delayed or abandoned.
Walthamstow Queen’s Road
The Suffragette line was suspended while engineers dealt with a faulty train at Walthamstow Queen’s Road. No service was running on that line while the work continued, and tickets were being accepted on London Buses, the Elizabeth line, Great Northern and the Weaver line.
The Windrush line was also part suspended, with no service between Clapham Junction and Surrey Quays while teams fixed a signal fault at Denmark Hill. The rest of the line had a good service, leaving passengers with only part of the route available.
Alternative routes across London
Travel options were being widened across London Underground, with tickets accepted via any reasonable route. That gave commuters more than one way to finish journeys, but it also meant planning around changed connections rather than relying on the usual line pattern.
