Ohtani Throws Seven Shutout Innings In Dodgers’ 4-0 Win — Mlb Scores
Shohei Ohtani turned mlb scores into a clean Dodgers win Wednesday night. He threw seven shutout innings, and Los Angeles beat the San Francisco Giants 4-0 to stop a season-high four-game losing streak.
The right-hander allowed four hits, struck out eight and walked two. The outing moved him to 3-2 and dropped his ERA to 0.82.
Ohtani controls Giants lineup
Ohtani’s latest start was his second straight seven-inning outing, something he had not done since May 2023 with the Los Angeles Angels. He kept the Giants off the scoreboard while working through a lineup that entered the night on a three-game winning streak.
That kind of length gave the Dodgers a rare cushion behind him. It also came with a different usage pattern, since Ohtani was not in the lineup as the designated hitter for the fourth time this season.
Espinal and Betts strike first
The Dodgers gave Ohtani early help in the third inning. Santiago Espinal and Mookie Betts hit back-to-back home runs, with Espinal sending his first ball out as a Dodger and Betts connecting for his first home run since coming off the injured list earlier in the week.
Los Angeles added on in the fourth. Teoscar Hernández lined an RBI single, and Alex Call followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0 before the middle innings settled into Ohtani’s control.
Ray takes the loss
Robbie Ray took the loss for San Francisco after allowing four runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. The Giants never got a response after the third-inning swing from Espinal and Betts, and the Dodgers kept extending the gap without needing more offense.
Ohtani will not be in the lineup Thursday so he can get two days of rest from hitting. For the Dodgers, the immediate result is a win that breaks the skid; for Ohtani, it is another start that keeps his run of low-scoring outings moving in the right direction.
