McIlroy Heads 13:40 BST Group at Aronimink Golf Club

Rory McIlroy will tee off at 13:40 BST on Thursday when the 108th US PGA Championship begins at aronimink golf club. He starts on the 10th tee in Pennsylvania, grouped with Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth.

The draw puts McIlroy into one of the tournament’s most watched early groups. He arrives after winning the PGA in 2012 by a record eight-stroke margin at Kiawah Island in South Carolina, and last month he defended his Masters title.

Rahm is alongside him after the pair were Ryder Cup team-mates in victory against the US at Bethpage last September. Spieth completes the trio, giving McIlroy a Thursday start that brings together three major names before the championship has settled into rhythm.

Scottie Scheffler begins his bid to defend the title he won a year ago at 19:05, with Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose in his group. The world number one is one of the day’s later starters, well after the first ball is struck at 11:45.

Alex Fitzpatrick is in that opening group with Braden Shattuck and Ben Griffin, while Bryson DeChambeau goes at 13:18 with Rickie Fowler and Ludvig Aberg. Tommy Fleetwood is set for 18:45 alongside Robert MacIntyre and Chris Gotterup.

The tee sheet gives the opening round a clear split between the early starters and the late marquee groups. McIlroy’s slot at 13:40 BST places him in the middle of that schedule, and Scheffler’s 19:05 start means the title defense begins on a different part of the day, with the first round at Aronimink Golf Club running through a long Thursday window.
