Tilak Varma Named India A Captain for June Tri-Series
tilak varma has been named captain of India A for the tri-series against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, with the 15-member squad set for the June assignment. Riyan Parag will be his deputy as the team begins a short white-ball stretch in Dambulla before shifting into two multi-day matches against Sri Lanka A.
Tilak Varma leads India A
The tri-nation series starts on June 9 and ends on June 21, giving India A a compact window to sort out roles in a 15-player group. The limited-overs matches are in Dambulla, while the longer fixtures are scheduled in Galle.
Tilak’s promotion puts him at the center of a squad that blends established IPL names with younger call-ups. Priyansh Arya is in the group, and the selectors also handed Vaibhav Suryavanshi his maiden India A call-up after a rapid rise through domestic and franchise cricket.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's rise
Suryavanshi arrives off a 2026 IPL season in which he scored 440 runs in 11 matches. That followed 252 runs in seven outings in 2025, a stretch that also included a century and a fifty.
His path has moved fast. He debuted for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy at the age of 12, then scored a 58-ball century for India Under-19 against Australia in Chennai before being run out for 104 off 62 deliveries.
Sri Lanka A schedule
India A’s June trip is split into formats, with the white-ball tri-series followed by two multi-day matches against Sri Lanka A. The BCCI said the squad for those red-ball fixtures will be announced later.
For India A, the immediate task is clear: use the tri-series to settle the leadership group and give the younger batters a run against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A before the longer matches are named.
