Kevin Sussman Leads Big Bang Theory Stuart to July 23 Premiere

big bang theory stuart is back on HBO Max, and this time Stuart Bloom is heading for a July 23 premiere. The first teaser for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe also puts Kevin Sussman’s character at the center of a multiverse mess after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard.

July 23 on HBO Max

The July 23 launch gives the comedy a fixed start date after the teaser showed Stuart dealing with wormholes, alternate-universe versions of familiar characters, giant bugs, and a rough run through reality. For viewers who followed The Big Bang Theory, the show now has a clear runway and a new entry point into the franchise.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is the third spinoff of The Big Bang Theory, after Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. That makes this more than a side project for HBO Max; it is another attempt to keep a proven comedy brand moving with a single-camera format and a new lead built around a character who was once a supporting player.

Kevin Sussman and the cast

Kevin Sussman returns as Stuart Bloom, and the teaser frames him as the man responsible for restoring reality after the device failure triggers a multiverse Armageddon. That setup puts the series on a different track from the earlier spinoffs, with the story leaning into science-fiction chaos instead of family sitcom territory.

Lauren Lapkus plays Denise, Brian Posehn plays geologist friend Bert, and John Ross Bowie plays Barry Kripke. Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and Zak Penn created the series and serve as writers and executive producers, with Lorre’s production company making it in association with Warner Bros. TV.

April comments

In April at the CCXP Mexico City convention, Posehn said, “The fun is watching him fail every week.” Sussman used the same event to sketch the relationship angle, saying, “When The Big Bang Theory ended, our relationship was just budding, and now you can see where it goes.”

That combination of a release date and a first teaser tells viewers exactly what HBO Max is selling here: a franchise extension with a central character, a defined tone, and enough alternate-universe mayhem to separate it from the shows that came before. July 23 is the point where the pitch stops being hypothetical.
