Camavinga waits on Deschamps' 26-man list at 20.00
camavinga is waiting to learn whether he will be in Didier Deschamps' 26-man France World Cup squad when it is announced at 20.00 on TF1. The decision lands with France's debut against Senegal set for 16 June in New York, and it could hinge on whether Deschamps picks one more forward and one fewer midfielder.
Deschamps and the midfield logjam
Deschamps has already locked in Kanté, Rabiot, Kone and Tchouaméni, while Zaire-Emery has also moved into the untouchable column because he can cover right back and midfield. That leaves Camavinga fighting for one of the last places in a group where his own value is tied to flexibility, not a single role.
He can play left back, sit as a pivot midfielder or push higher in midfield, but that versatility has not been enough to make his place feel secure. If Deschamps chooses one additional forward, the squeeze comes in the middle of the pitch, where the available slots are already crowded.
Camavinga and Real Madrid
The pressure has built on the Real Madrid midfielder since his 2021 move to the club. His season has been difficult, he was sent off in Munich, and he has not managed to establish himself in the starting eleven under Xabi or Arbeloa.
That form has already shown up with France. In the last international call-up, Camavinga was a substitute in both matches and played about half an hour in total, a sign that his role has shrunk just as the squad decision arrives.
France before Senegal
France still open its World Cup campaign on 16 June in New York against Senegal, so the 26-player list drawn up tonight will set the first squad shape for the tournament. Camavinga has been in Deschamps' squads until now, but tonight's call decides whether he stays in that picture or loses ground to the players already inside the coach's core group.
