Gerwyn Price Withdraws From World Cup Of Darts 2026
Gerwyn Price has pulled out of world cup of darts 2026, withdrawing from the tournament where he was due to represent Wales. The 41-year-old said he is not in a great place health-wise, then added that he needs a break from darts.
Price’s exit removes one of Wales’ biggest names from a major international event. It also comes after a run of results and comments that point to a player trying to keep competing while juggling form, health and a busy life away from the oche.
Price and Wales
The withdrawal means Wales will go into the World Cup without Price, the player who had been due to line up for them. It is the second time in three years that he has missed the tournament.
That absence follows a last-week loss in Leeds, where he was beaten 6-2 by Jonny Clayton. After that match, Price said: “My focus is there, it's just health-wise I am not in a great place at the moment. But I am battling on and searching for some results. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks they will come and they will put me at ease. Then I will be able to enjoy darts again. Frustrating times.”
Leeds and March
Price also said after the Leeds defeat: “Time to rely on Lady Luck and see what happens over the next two weeks. Hopefully make the play-offs but I need a lot of luck to go my way. Hopefully see you at the O2. It's not good playing once a week and hopefully I get the results I want in three weeks' time.” That kept the focus on his Premier League run, where he had been pushing for results while sitting third in the table and eighth in the PDC's Order of Merit.
March brought another sign of strain. Price lost 8-3 to Wessel Nijman in the European Darts Trophy final and posted that it was a “Great weekend for me, another final but very frustrating in the end. Onto Dublin this week. Need a break from this, I think it's so tough mentally. But I'll push on, thanks for the support.”
Chippy 501 and Treharris
Price’s life away from darts has also been part of the picture. He runs a farm in Treharris and bought the chip shop Chippy 501 in 2024, then said in December 2024 that managing the business had affected his darts because his mind was elsewhere.
He later posted a clarification that he had not withdrawn from the World Cup because of health reasons. Even so, the withdrawal leaves Wales without its leading figure for the event and puts the short-term shape of Price’s schedule under pressure after a run of mixed results and a clear call for a break.
