Patriots Schedule: New England Sets 1 p.m. ET Steelers Home Opener

The patriots schedule now has a date for the first home game: the New England Patriots will host the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2 on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m. ET. New England opens the season on the road, then returns to Gillette Stadium with 10 days of rest behind it.

Gillette Stadium Gets Pittsburgh

The Patriots will meet a familiar AFC opponent in their home opener. They and the Steelers have crossed paths for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons, and the last meeting listed came in Week 3 of last season, when New England lost 21-14 at home.

That game also ended a three-game win streak against Pittsburgh. This time, the Patriots will have the edge of the mini-bye after their Wednesday, Sept. 9 opener against the defending world champion Seattle Seahawks, while the Steelers will be coming off their own Sunday slate.

Steelers Arrive After Atlanta

Pittsburgh opens its 2026 season on Sunday, Sept. 13, at home against Atlanta before heading to Foxborough. That makes the matchup a quick turn for the Steelers and a clean reset for New England, which will have a full 10 days between games before its first home kickoff.

For Mike Vrabel’s team, the timing is the point. The Patriots start the year away from home, then step into their first game at Gillette Stadium with the schedule already tightening around them and the full 2026 slate still due Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.

The rest of the year already includes more travel. The Patriots will play their sixth international game later in 2026, their first international game since 2024, and they will take on the Lions in November. For now, though, the first home date is locked in, and it comes with Pittsburgh waiting.

Week 2 Carries Weight

The opener at Gillette Stadium gives New England an early read on where it stands in the AFC East race and how quickly it can settle into the season after a road start. Fans get the first home look on Sept. 20, and the matchup arrives with a short list of facts already set: the opponent, the time, the rest window, and the long-running history between these teams.
