Thaddeus Dixon Tears Achilles, Giants Schedule 2026 Shifts
Thaddeus Dixon’s torn Achilles changed the Giants’ roster picture on Thursday, and the move puts giants schedule 2026 in a different place before he ever had a chance to win a role. The undrafted rookie cornerback was injured during Wednesday workouts and placed on season-ending injured reserve after the injury was addressed Thursday afternoon.
Dixon’s Wednesday workout injury
Dixon signed with the Giants after the draft with $282,500 guaranteed and a $35,000 signing bonus, a package that pointed to a real chance to compete as a backup cornerback and special teams contributor. Instead, his season ended before the competition could take shape.
He arrived from Washington and North Carolina with a college résumé built across 34 games. Dixon recorded two interceptions and 22 passes defensed in those games, enough production to make him a developmental addition worth watching in camp.
Giants add Khalid Kareem
The Giants responded by adding veteran defensive end Khalid Kareem to their 90-man roster on Thursday. Kareem has played in 34 games over six NFL seasons and has spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, and Atlanta Falcons.
The roster move kept the Giants active after losing Dixon, who had been one of the unsigned pieces on the defensive side of the competition. On Thursday, the team also hosted free agent cornerback Nazeer Johnson for a visit, while only Arvell Reese and Francis Mauigoa remained unsigned.
Giants roster shuffle
Dixon’s injury removes a rookie defensive back from the mix before the roster battle could settle, and it leaves the Giants with one less option at cornerback as they sort through the bottom of the depth chart. For a player who had already earned guaranteed money to sign, the setback ends his first push before it could turn into a larger role.
