Jason Witten joins Luke Combs on stage in Norman

Luke Combs brought Jason Witten on stage Saturday night at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma, and the move split attention between the concert and the football crosscurrents around it. Witten, who played at Tennessee from 2000 to 2002, stood on the Oklahoma side of the rivalry after joining the Sooners’ coaching staff earlier this offseason.

Norman Stage, Tennessee Roots

Witten was not the only football name on stage. Creed Humphrey, Lane Johnson, and Danny Stutsman joined him with Combs, turning the Norman stop into a meet-up of Oklahoma-linked figures rather than a simple country concert cameo.

That appearance landed differently because Combs had brought Peyton Manning, Al Wilson, Joey Aguilar, and Josh Heupel to the stage at Neyland Stadium a couple of weeks earlier. Heupel played for Oklahoma and led the Sooners to a national championship as a player in 2000, which made the contrast hard to miss for Tennessee fans following both stops.

Witten's Oklahoma Role

Earlier this offseason, Witten joined Oklahoma as the program’s new tight ends coach, so his Norman appearance fit his current job even if it bothered some Volunteers supporters. The friction came less from the concert itself than from seeing a Tennessee legend publicly aligned with Oklahoma in front of a crowd that knew exactly what that symbolized.

The live set also extended Combs’ habit of turning stadium shows into football gatherings, with his previous Neyland stop already loaded with Tennessee names. For Tennessee fans, Witten’s move to Oklahoma and his stage time in Norman made the message plain: the tie that once defined him in Knoxville now sits beside a coaching title in Norman.

2026 at Neyland

Tee Martin is scheduled to return to Neyland Stadium in 2026 as a member of Lane Kiffin’s LSU Tigers coaching staff, giving Tennessee another future reunion point to track. Until then, Combs has already shown he can pull the sport’s biggest names onto his stage and make the location of each appearance part of the story.
