Curry Wants One More Title as Warriors Plan Around Year 18
Stephen curry wants at least one more championship before the end of his career, and the Golden State Warriors have been told that goal is central to his future with the team. He is entering Year 18 at 38 years old, with the franchise preparing to keep the partnership going after 17 seasons.
Curry’s championship demand
That target is the clearest signal in the story. Curry has made it plain that winning another title is on his mind, and that puts pressure on Golden State to build a roster that can do more than hover around the middle of the West.
Brett Siegel said the Warriors have been made aware of Curry’s aspiration to win another championship before he retires. He wrote, “Not to mention, Curry has also made it clear that he wants to win at least one more championship, which would put him in a category with greats like Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, and other legends as the only players in league history to win at least five championships with the same organization.”
Golden State’s roster push
The Warriors have not been better than a play-in team since winning a championship five seasons ago, a drop from the standard set by their 2022 group. They are still built around Curry and Draymond Green, but the front office is said to be chasing star help to change the trajectory.
Golden State intends to go all-in on stars of Curry’s ilk, including LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, and Kevin Durant. The team has tried to pair James with Curry for years, and getting any of those players would require extensive maneuvering from the front office.
Salary cuts and urgency
That maneuvering would not stop at trade talks. The Warriors would also need players already on the roster to accept pay cuts, which makes the task harder even before a deal is in place.
Curry’s latest numbers show he is still carrying elite production at this stage. In his 17th season, he averaged 26.6 points per game and played the fewest average minutes per game of his career, a sharp reminder that Golden State is still relying on him while searching for the kind of help that could turn one more title run into a real possibility.
