Derbyshire Live: £1.5 million boosts Infinity Prototyping Centre in Derby
derbyshire live reports that Derby is set to turn the former Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre into the Infinity Prototyping Centre after a £1.5 million investment from the East Midlands Combined County Authority. Work has now started on the project, which is expected to create 11 high-value jobs and open high-precision research space in the city.
The site is being repurposed rather than rebuilt from scratch, with the new centre due to offer state-of-the-art services and flexible, collaborative workspaces for organisations across the nuclear supply chain. The works are expected to be completed in Summer 2026.
Nadine Peatfield on Derby site
Nadine Peatfield, leader of Derby City Council, said the project will give the building new life and support the local economy. She said, “The IPC is a great example of partnership working in action.”
She also said, “The City Council is collaborating with its partners including the University of Derby and Infinity Technology Group Ltd to deliver this project, which will offer a huge boost to our local economy and reaffirm Derby’s place as a national leader for innovation, manufacturing and world-class research and development.”
Peatfield added, “The investment from EMCCA will give new life for the building and will allow us to deliver on our ambitions for our city – that it is one of sustainable growth, technological leadership, and a hub for advanced manufacturing.”
East Midlands Combined County Authority
The project brings together the East Midlands Combined County Authority, Derby City Council, the University of Derby and Infinity Technology Group Ltd. Derby City Council said the site will support high-precision, advanced manufacturing and green growth opportunities, while the IPC is also expected to support wider employment opportunities for local people.
Claire Ward, Mayor of the East Midlands, said, “This investment demonstrates my commitment to creating high-quality jobs and supporting the industries that will power our future economy.” She added, “The Infinity Prototyping Centre is exactly the kind of forward-thinking project we want to champion.”
Ward also said, “I am focused on unlocking the region’s full potential through both the Investment Fund and the East Midlands Investment Zone programme.”
Summer 2026 completion
By Summer 2026, Derby will have a new research and manufacturing space in a building already tied to the city’s industrial base, rather than a blank-site development. For businesses in the nuclear supply chain, the immediate practical change is the arrival of a dedicated prototyping centre with collaborative workspaces; for residents, the clearest near-term gain is the promise of 11 high-value jobs and more local employment tied to the site.
