Adelaide United Vs Auckland Fc Heads Into 1-1 Return Leg
adelaide united vs auckland fc is level at 1-1 after the first leg in Auckland, sending the 2025-26 Isuzu UTE A-League semi-final to Coopers Stadium on Friday, May 15. Adelaide now gets the return leg at home, with the tie still open and one place in the final four on the line in week 3 of the Finals Series.
Lachlan Brook gave Adelaide the lead before Harry Crawford pulled Auckland back into the tie, and the draw left both sides with work to do in the second leg. The match is set for 7:35pm AEST.
Coopers Stadium Return
Adelaide finished the first leg with a result it could carry into its own ground. Bart Vriends said the team were satisfied because they can finish it at home, and Ethan Alagich said the squad believes in the coaching staff and in what it can do on Friday night.
That belief sits on a first leg in which Adelaide felt it stood up well across the contest. Vriends said, "The way we played in Auckland, we basically matched them in every moment of the game." He also said, "We struggled a bit in one phase in the first half, but the way we stood up in the second half is the way to go."
Vriends On Auckland
Vriends also gave a clear read on the opponent. "(Auckland) is not an easy team to play against, we’ve noticed that now many times, even last year," he said. He added that Auckland are physical, cross often for their tall strikers and rely on wingers who can deliver well.
Adelaide’s response in Auckland was to hold its ground and keep the game level. Vriends said, "We know they’re physical, we know they come in with lots of crosses for their tall strikers and their wingers can deliver pretty well. But we stood our ground and our football usually prevails."
Luka Jovanović Returns
Adelaide also gets Luka Jovanović back for the semi-final second leg. Vriends said, "He doesn’t owe the team, he shot us into the semi-finals and he did a tremendous job. Obviously it cost him because of the celebration, but we’re just happy for him to be back."
He added that Jovanović is "a great asset" who can score crucial goals, pointing to the kind of forward threat Adelaide wants in a home leg that now decides the tie. With the series level and Coopers Stadium ready, Adelaide has the chance to turn a draw in Auckland into a place in the final.
