Work Begins on Daniel Andrews Statue at $134,304

Work has begun on a daniel andrews statue that will commemorate the former Victorian premier's more than 3,000 days in office. The project carries a total cost of $134,304 and is being handled by Meridian Sculpture.

Treasury Place Policy

A Victorian government spokesperson said: “Under a policy introduced by the Kennett government, Victorian premiers who serve more than 3,000 days in office are recognised with a statue along Treasury Place in honour of their service to the state.” Andrews meets that threshold, putting him among the premiers honoured under the standing policy.

Meridian Sculpture has also created the statues of the other four Victorian premiers who reached the 3,000-day milestone. That leaves the work tied to an established sequence rather than a one-off commission.

Meridian Sculpture Commission

The total cost of the statue is $134,304, and the government said installation details will be finalised closer to completion. The same statement said: “Daniel Andrews led Victoria through some of its toughest moments and never stopped fighting for working people.”

The commission gives a fixed price and a named maker, but the final placement details are still to be settled as the statue nears completion. For readers following the project, the main change now is that fabrication has started and the figure is moving from policy to physical installation.
